THE INTERNET POKER TOURNAMENT

Internet poker rooms offer a series of options when it comes to your online poker play:

  • Cash Internet Poker Games
  • Freeroll Internet Poker Tournaments
  • Low-Stake Internet Poker Tournaments
  • High-Stake Internet Poker Tournaments
  • Play Chip Poker Games

By far and away the most popular is the internet poker tournament. How do you play in one of these?

Usually, when you are in the lobby of the online poker room, you click the internet poker tournament tab and you will be presented with a huge list of internet poker tournaments which will be happening in the very near future. You can order the list in whichever way you see fit, the most popular (and usually default) is from low-high buy-in.

All you need to do is locate the internet poker tournament that you wish to play in and then you will be presented with the registration stage. Sometimes you have to pay in advance from your cashier balance but sometimes you have to pay just before the start of the internet poker tournament.

Make sure you remember the tournaments that you have signed up to! I forgot to sit down and play for one I had already paid a $10 buy-in which was very disappointing!

Once you sit down at the poker table, the internet poker tournament will begin. You then treat the tournament as you would any other online poker game. Use a similar online poker strategy, especially if you are playing in a low buy-in tournament, where the poker players are often too keen to get involved with more than half the poker hands that are dealt. The host of the internet poker tournament will automatically merge the tables so that however far you get in the competition, you will be playing with a full table of ten players until you get to the final ten players.

Watch out for the blinds which go up without mercy in these internet poker tournaments. You must mix up your play and take a few risks if your stack is getting completely eaten away by the blinds (obviously you should have done something better before you get to this stage!). A break is usually offered every hour or so so just aim for the breaks and survive so that you can play some proper poker once you get to the final table.

Internet poker tournaments are hugely rewarding but make sure you play tightly in the early stages to ensure that you don’t lose to the many screaming fish that are floating around in the early stages of the competitions.
